Did you know your eyes are just as vulnerable to sun damage as your skin?
Just as you would protect your skin with sunscreen, the best way to protect your eyes from the sun is to wear sunglasses that filter out harmful UV rays. These rays can cause a variety of short and long term conditions ranging from a temporary but painful ‘sunburn’ to permanent eyesight deterioration or even blindness.
At Ralph Carr Opticians we stock a wide range of sunglasses, including top designs by Ted Baker, Radley and Joules as well as a variety of budget options. If you need any assistance in selecting the most suitable pair of sunspecs for you our knowledgeable staff are always on hand to advise you on the latest styles of eyewear. If you have normal prescription eyewear we can also include your prescription in your sunglass lenses – you’ll never have to compromise on visual clarity, regardless of the weather!
Sunglasses typically block between 50-85% of visible light. In order to determine what tint would be best for you, it is best to consider where you will be wearing them most often. For example, if you are on the beach they should block around 85% of light; however, if you spend a lot of time driving, it would be safer to wear glasses that allow more visible light through.
Polarised lenses are also an option for all of the sunglasses we stock in practice, which could be particularly beneficial if you play outdoor sports, spend a lot of time by water or are often in the car. These have a special tint which reduce glare from the sun and improve contrast, allowing you an all-round better visual experience. Polarising is now also available with high index lenses and multi-focal, so you can have the best eye protection as well as visually attractive eyewear.
